During his last two years in the Bureau, Roy worked in the White Collar Crime Branch in New York City. Before that, Roy conducted investigations in the Atlanta, Georgia Division. Shortly after the 9/11 attacks, Roy served an extended temporary duty assignment to Egypt, Djibouti and Ethiopia. Roy worked directly with the security services in those countries. Roy also had two extended temporary duty assignments to the FBI Academy where he worked in the New Agents' Training Unit.
Roy served eight years active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps from 1974 - 1982. Roy was both a commissioned officer and an enlisted man. Roy served in the USMC abroad for over two years. Roy left active duty and served an additional five years (1982-87) in the USMC Reserve. During that time, Roy also worked as a police officer and staff accountant, and earned a B.S. Degree in Business Administration, with a 4.00 G.P.A., from Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland.
