Letter of Commendation and award from Director Sessions for the infamous "Mole-Gang" case in Albany, GA circa 1988. The article appeared in the FBI Investigator magazine.
A group of a dozen well-financed career criminals from five different states tunneled and drilled into the bank vault. The case was considered "unsolvable" by some, but persistence finally paid off. This case had all the "drama" one could ask for: prostitution, manslaughter, a Miami drug ring, organized crime, a Chicago mobster, "bikers", the "Dixie Mafia", "Old Albany Money", a young hard-headed FBI agent, and much, much more.
Back at the hotel, after a long day of Terrorism Investigation in Djibouti, (located next to Somalia, in The Horn of Africa, circa early 2002).

Letter of Commendation and award from Director Freeh for Ku Klux Klan case. Note the ceremonial cross in upper left photo and burning cross in lower right photo. While difficult to see here, the upper right photo is an actual formal Klan ceremony being held under a covered bridge. A child is in the foreground. Also note the 3 Klan "calling cards".

Finger prints from the above van were linked to soon-to-be-convicted robbers of several banks. One of the robbers made a complete confession to Roy. The other was eventually apprehended by Roy, and other FBI agents, along with one of the many outstanding APD detectives that worked closely with the Albany FBI. The crime scene units of the GBI, Albany Police, and Dougherty County SO were excellent, and together, the CSI Units and FBI solved many cases. Matters like this prompted Roy to learn more about crime scene investigation and encouraged him to remain a "Brick (Street) Agent" throughout his career. Roy also joined the FBI ERT team and was board certified by IAI as a Crime Scene Technician.

Section of bank vault floor (marked with Roy Brown's initials and date) drilled out by 4" diamond headed water-cooled core drill by "Mole Gang". They drilled a series of these in a circle about the size of a man-hole cover. The Moles did this from underneath the vault floor.

Roy Brown trained his dog Katie to be a tracker and to recover articles. Here, Katie and Roy had just finished a night of searching for an escaped bank robber in Crisp County, Georgia.
